Witness statements recorded in Mines Dept locking case

PANJIM: Panjim Police started recording the statements regarding the locking up of the Department of Mines and Geology office by activists Claude Alvares and Rahul Basu.
“The FIR has been registered and the investigation is on. We have started recording the statements of witnesses on the day the Department of Mines and Geology office was locked,” IO Vivek Haldarnkar said.
Police on Sunday registered an FIR against Alvares and Basu after receiving a complaint from DMG official Yashwant Talgeri.
According to Panjim police, the FIR was registered for damage to public property, wrong confinement and obstruction to public servant while on duty.
In an unexpected development, Goa Foundation along with other NGOs on Saturday had locked the door of the Directorate and handed over the keys to Panjim police station in-charge PI Siddhant Shirodkar.
