Woman and Her Live-In Partner Arrested for Murder of Infant in Kochi Lodge

A woman and her live-in partner were arrested by the police for the murder of her one-and-a-half-month-old boy at a lodge in Karukapilly, Kochi. The investigation revealed that Sanif, 25, of Chakkarakkal, Kannur, murdered the infant with the knowledge of the child’s mother, Aswathy, 25, of Eramalloor, Alappuzha. Sanif confessed to the crime, which took place on December 3.

The police discovered that the infant was fathered by Aswathy’s ex-boyfriend. Sanif, disliking another person’s child staying with him, tortured the child since birth. Sanif brought Aswathy and her child to the lodge in Karukapilly, telling her he would kill the infant so they could live together. On December 3, early in the morning, he kneed the child, causing unconsciousness, and bit the child to ensure death. They later rushed the infant to Ernakulam General Hospital, claiming the child had choked on breast milk, but the postmortem confirmed death from a head injury.

Sanif and Aswathy will be produced in court, and the body of the child is in a Kochi mortuary. While Sanif confessed to the crime, Aswathy denied involvement, stating she did not know about the murder as she was asleep. Sanif claimed Aswathy was involved, and they planned it together. The manager of Kay Kay Residency, where the incident occurred, said Sanif introduced Aswathy as his wife and the infant as his son, taking a room on November 30 and later extending their stay.
