VASCO: Within a month, another incident of a minor riding a vehicle and causing death of a woman was reported at Vasco on Monday.
Mamata Shetye (59), working as a contract worker of Mormugao Municipal Council was killed after she was knocked down by a speeding two-wheeler ridden by a minor without a valid driving licence at New Vaddem, Vasco. The accident occurred when Shetye was crossing the road from a horticulture outlet run by her brother.
After knocking down the woman, the rider and the pillion rider rammed the two-wheeler into a roadside shop damaging the utensils.
This was the second incident involving the minor reported within a month, the first being when a 50-year-old woman Reena Fernandes of Chicalim was killed by a minor driving a Maruti Ertiga vehicle on November 25.
Following the accident, the residents have demanded stern action against those driving vehicles without obtaining a driver’s licence and in a rash and negligent manner. They have also appealed to the parents not to give their vehicles to their minor wards.
PSI Ganesh Matondkar conducted the panchanama and is conducting further investigation under the guidance of Vasco PI Kapil Nayak and overall supervision of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
