Woman rescued from the hollow part of a grade separator pillar near the Dabolim Airport

A
woman from Karwar was
spotted
in an area between pillars below the grade separator flyover near the Dabolim
Airport area on Monday.
Upon spotting the woman, taxi drivers
immediately alerted the police and the fire brigade was called. Fire personnel
arrived on site and rescued the women using a ladder
. The
incident shocked many as to how a woman could climb a pillar to reach the area.

People
suspected the woman was perhaps trying to take her own life. However, the woman
claims she was brought to the area under the pretext of a job and was robbed off
her money. 

Speaking to the media, Fire Official Chetan Honnaverkar said that they got a call at 8.30 am saying that a lady was found on the pillar and may attempt suicide. ” We rushed to the site and immediately rescued the woman using a ladder. The lady claims she does not know how she reached there ” said Honnaverkar.

Taxi driver Manish Naik said that they were shocked to see the woman. “We immediately called the police and informed them and we also called the fire brigade to rescue the woman,” said Naik 

Another taxi driver Darshan Upaskar said that there was a manhole near the entry of the flyover that leads to the hollow area below the flyover. “The manhole has to be immediately cleared because it is very dangerous for everyone. The authorities must immediately close the area before there are more untoward incidents where anyone can even dump something which no one will even notice” said Upaskar.
