CALANGUTE: Women sarpanchas are often accused of being ineffective, but this woman sarpanch from Parra went ahead and got a compound wall demolished without even the need for police protection.

Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo led the demolition squad in the paddy fields of Parra and demolished an illegal compound wall.

“We demolished the illegal compound wall constructed in paddy fields after serving a notice-cum-demolition order for the illegal activity in agricultural land. The illegal construction activity in the paddy fields was brought to my notice and a site inspection was conducted,” said the sarpanch.

“The panchayat body later decided to demolish the illegal compound wall, as it had no permission from any competent authority.”

“The panchayat was forced to take the extreme step as work was going on in full swing with 40-odd labourers and the compound wall would have been ready overnight. I hope this action of ours will send a strong message to those planning illegal constructions in the paddy fields of Parra,” added Mrs Lobo.

Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo, who was accompanied by Panchas Edwin Lobo, Kamla Nigudkar and Candida D’Souza, was praised by locals for taking quick and effective action in demolishing the illegal structure.
