CANACONA: A Galgibaga woman was smashed with a stone on her face and left to die in cashew plantation over property dispute, two days ago.
In her complaint to Canacona police, an elderly Galgibaga woman has alleged that her daughter was attacked by her sister-in-law and her spinster daughter and left to die in the cashew plantation on the hills of Colsor in Galgibaga over a property dispute. Canacona police have registered an offence under Section 326 read with 34 of Indian Panel Code Act against the accused Rukmini Naik and her daughter Preeti Naik over a complaint by Kamlabai Naik, the mother of the victim for attacking her daughter when she had gone to harvest cashew nuts near her residence at daybreak on Tuesday.
The complainant has stated that both the accused persons have assaulted her daughter and smashed her head by using a boulder, and left to die in the cashew plantation.
Swiftly acting on the complaint Canacona police have placed Preeti Naik behind bars and are on the lookout for her mother who is absconding after allegedly committing the offence.
Canacona Police Inspector said that they have booked both the accused, while only Preeti Naik, one of the accused has been in police custody since Tuesday.
Her custody has been extended by three more days till Monday by a court in Margao, police said.
Sources close to the investigation said that the other accused is absconding and they are making all efforts to trace her as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the victim is admitted to Hospicio hospital, Margao with head injuries she sustained in the alleged assault.
The case which is probed for causing grave injuries is being investigated by ASI D Talekar under the supervision of Canacona PI Sudesh Narvekar.
