Ponda police have booked an offence of attempted murder against Sarita Gaonkar of Shignewal-Nirankal, who was later arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Dhondu Kudav (24) of Nayale in Naybag-Pernem under Section 307 of IPC.
Passersby were horrified to find a bleeding Kudav, with a knife sticking from his back, riding a scooter for nearly 4 kms as he sped towards the Ponda police station to report the incident.
Police shifted him to the ID hospital at Ponda, but as there were no facilities to remove the knife without causing further bleeding, Kudav was rushed to the Goa Medical College hospital at Bambolim, where the knife was finally removed from his back.
According to Ponda Police Inspector C L Patil, the incident was a pre-planned move by the woman, who had taken a knife to attack her lover.
According to police, Kudav and Gaonkar were involved in a relationship for the past few months. While Kudav was employed at the Marcaim Industrial Estate, Gaonkar was working in Ponda.
On Friday, Gaonkar reportedly telephoned Kudav at about 6 am and asked him to meet her at 9.30 am at the Ponda bus stand.
Kudav met her at the designated time and place, from where they proceeded towards Kodar. Somewhere along an isolated part of the road, Gaonkar allegedly stabbed him thrice on his back while he was on his scooter and fled from the site.
Gaonkar later went to a friend’s house in Ponda, from where police took her into custody and later arrested her.
According to Ponda police, both Kudav and Gaonkar had accused each other of breaking up the relationship. Kudav is undergoing treatment at the GMC, as police investigations are in progress.
