CURCHOREM: The women from mining areas under the banner of Goa Mining Peoples Front (GMPF) submitted a memorandum to Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pauskar at his Sanvordem office on Friday.
More than 150 women assembled and led a rally which started from Tisk-Sanvordem and culminated at the MLA’s office after wending its way through Sanvordem market. On reaching the MLA’s office, the women submitted a memorandum demanding restarting of mining operation quickly or to come out with some solution at the earliest which. The memorandum was accepted by Sandip Pauskar, the MLA’s brother since the legislator was not present in the office when the women submitted their memorandum.
“A lot has been said about the impact of mining ban on the economy, on jobs and investments but so far nothing has been spoken about the impact of ban on womenfolk from the mining belt. Women are the back bone of the society and play a vital role in the development including that of mother, wife, bread earner and therefore worried about their own job prospects including their sons and daughters who have or about to lose jobs due to mining ban,” the women stated in their memorandum.
