The Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW) will conduct a separate inquiry into the attempted escape incident by inmates of Protective Home, GSCW chairperson Ezilda Sapeco said.
“I will be calling for details from respective authorities as soon as possible. The commission will simultaneously carry out an inquiry into the escape,” she said while speaking to Herald.
Sapeco asserted that the commission would render complete assistance to the Directorate of Women and Child and Protective Home officials, so that such incidents do not occur again.
Protesting against their prolonged lodging at Merces Protective Home, nine women rescued from prostitution racket, fled from the Home but were later traced with the help of Old Goa police.
“These incidents should not happen again and for this, we are ready to provide assistance if required. The commission members will meet the inmates to find out their problems, etc,” she said.
The authorities on Thursday tried to keep the incident under wraps as it exposed their lethargy of keeping the women for over three months against the legal provision to release them within 15 days.
“I don’t have any information on the escape. If there is any such incident, I will ask for a report,” Director of Women and Child department Sanjiv Gadkar told Herald when contacted for reaction on Thursday evening.
