PANJIM: Two complaints of extortion threats to women dentists through letters allegedly signed by Al Qaeda terrorist Abu Zarqawi has put all in a tizzy as the terrorist was killed over a decade ago in 2006.
On receiving complaints from the women dentists, Calangute police has begun an investigation. “We have received complaints from two dentists practising in Calangute. Our investigation has commenced,” Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi told Herald while refusing to divulge details.
It is learnt that the dentists have been asked to pay protection money of Rs 1-2 crore. One of the letters, sources said, demanded that the dentist pay Rs 2 crore and if she agrees she should put up a white cloth outside her clinic. Accordingly, the dentist put up white cloth but there was no response. “A second letter came with a similar demand,” police said adding one of them received the threat letter twice.
These places have been provided police security even as sources said the probe will also look into the possibility of a prank or enmity.
Police have registered FIRs for criminal intimidation against unknown persons.
