Women fish vendors urge MMC to check illegal sale outside market

VASCO: Around 15 women fish vendors from Vasco fish market along with Adv Fr Micheal Fernandes met the Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer Gurudas Pilarnkar and submitted a representation asking to prohibit selling of fish in the town outside the fish market. The Chief Officer assured to take necessary action in this matter.

Putting forth their grievances, the fisherwomen said that some people are involved in selling fish outside the fish market vicinity at wholesale prices without any permission.

Speaking to the media persons, Adv Fr Fernandes said that although the municipality had assured it would not allow fish to be sold outside the fish market and would take strict action against the offenders, some of the wholesale vendors continue to sell fish at the wholesale price.

“Therefore the women fish vendors have submitted a representation to the administrator requesting him to take immediate action on the violators,” said Adv Fr Fernandes.

Pilarnkar informed that he heard the fisherwomen’s version and understood their request. “I will now listen to the wholesale vendors’ grievances and take a decision,” said the Administrator.
