Women forum calls for combating sex trafficking

VASCO: The Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) has called for awareness session to combat human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation in Mormugao taluka. 
The (GWF) has written to the Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Araundekar to organise this awareness session to combat human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation.
In the letter, GWF has pointed out that there are many cases of human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation being booked by Goa Police and reported in various newspapers and the audio visual media. 
The recent case of a massage parlour being raided by Verna police in the vicinity of the MES College junction at Zuarinagar wherein two men were arrested for procuring two women for commercial sexual exploitation is a case in point.
The GWF letter further pointed out that these cases of human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation which are on the increase need to be stopped. However, this will be possible only if the local community is made aware of the exploitation that is taking place, the laws prevalent to combat this exploitation and the role of civil society.
GWF has urged the deputy collector to organise the awareness programme on the need to combat human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation in collaboration with the Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Goa Police and ARZ, a social work organisation.
