PONDA: The Leader of Opposition Digamabar Kamat said that the women have potential to make changes in society, and recently Goans witnessed this in Shel-Melauli wherein uneducated women from the area forced the government to change its decision of imposing IIT project on their cultivable land.
He was speaking after felicitating around 100 self-reliant women on occasion of Women’s Day function, organised by the Ponda First, organisation headed by Rajesh Verenkar, at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, here.
Around 100 women achievers, self-reliant women were felicitated.
Verenkar said, “Now automobile industry is also employing women for vehicle production and I hope with this the workforce gender equality reaches the equal mark.” Pramod Salgaonkar said that atrocities on women are still taking place, which should be stop.
“It is the responsibility of the government to give a safe environment to all of us. Even economic empowerment is needed for women,” She said.
Meanwhile in another function organised by Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar along with Dr Ketan Bhatikar felicitated 250 women, who contributed in various field including doctors.
Dhavalikar said, “Today we must show highest respect for women for their contributions in shaping the society.”
He said, “Mother not only gives birth but also a first of guru of the child. We must recognise the contribution of mother who imbibes good culture on children thereby creating good citizens to society.
