PONDA: The vendors doing business inside Ponda market shed, especially the women, are facing hardships in absence of alternate toilet facility since past two months renovation work is going on in the existing toilet complex at a snail’s speed.
“The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) authorities undertook the repairs of the existing toilet facility two months ago, but work is progressing at a very slow pace. Moreover, they did not provide an alternative toilet facility, such as bio-toilets, are not provided at site. Due to this, the vendors especially the women, besides visitors, are suffering. The women said male vendors somehow manage, but women are forced to face hardships,” a female vendor said.
They further said that stench caused by people urinating around the toilet complex is compounding to their woes. They demanded that PMC should complete the toilet block renovation work at the earliest and
also provide an alternative facility for toilets.
Amchi Vyapari Sanghatana (Ponda Market Vendors Association) President, Garu Sawant said there are two bio-toilets are there, but are located far away from the market.
He said that bio-toilets should be put up inside
the market shed till the renovation work of toilet blocks is completed.
He said this would provide relief to women vendors inside the market complex.
PMC Chief Officer, Shubam Naik said the PMC is aware of problem faced by vendors especially, women vendors. He assured within two days, alternative arrangement of toilet would be provided for women vendors.
