PANJIM: The Goa State Commission for Women on Wednesday issued notices to the district collectors and Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) directing them to remove posters of condoms commercials from public places.
Commission Chairperson Vidhya Shet Tanavade said the notices to KTCL and North Goa District Collector Nila Mohanan were handed over in person, while the notice to South Collector Swapnil Naik was sent via post.
The notices are issued based on a complaint filed by a women’s organization Ranaragini that stated the advertising campaign in public places objectifying the feminine gender, was proving an embarrassment to women. “A different message is conveyed on account of this. This is a very ugly scene,” the petition signed by the organization’s Neha Govekar said.
The petition incidentally comes following the Herald report of February 24 highlighting the issue wherein some educationists took objection to the promotion of ‘Manforce condom’ advertisements on Kadamba buses.
Tanavade told Herald that she expected the authorities to act at the earliest. “We have not given any deadline to remove the ads from public places, but we hope the local administration takes serious cognizance of the matter. We will continue following up the issue on regular basis,” she said.
