Won’t move an inch till termination revoked: Anganwadi workers

PANJIM: Accusing the government of playing “cheap tactics” to breach their hunger strike, the six agitating Anganwadi workers on Sunday pledged that no matter how hard the government tries to move them from Azad Maidan, they will neither withdraw their protest nor move from the protest site unless their termination order is revoked and they are absorbed back into service.

Vice-president of the Goa Union of Anganwadi workers (GUAW) Jyoti Kerkar told Herald that a health worker from Urban Health Centre, Panjim visited them on Sunday morning citing routine blood pressure check-up.

“They said they have come to check the blood pressure but were enquiring whether any of them are suffering from fever. They were not enquiring out of concern but literally forcing us to give a positive nod so that they can shift us from here and breach our hunger strike,” alleged Kerkar.

It may be recalled that one protestor was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Saturday with palpitations and low blood sugar.
