Wooden bamboo sticks pose danger on Arambol beach

PERNEM: Tourist season has ended and the shacks and other structures from the beach are removed. However, the left out parts of bamboo used to erect the shacks on the beach are now causing inconvenience to people visiting on Arambol beach. 

Adding to the claims locals said that instead of removing the bamboo sticks from the roots, the shack owners have dismantled it by breaking the bamboo sticks above the sand and now since the sand from the beach have washed out during the rains, remaining parts of those bamboo sticks which were left out have come up causing inconvenience to locals and tourists. 

Locals claimed that the irresponsible attitude of the shack owners is causing inconvenience to people visiting the beach. 

Locals accused saying that instead of removing the bamboo sticks from the roots, shacks were dismantled by breaking the bamboo sticks. Incessant rains and heavy waves along the shore have washed away the sand thus making bamboos visible on top.

Fishermen said that during the rains they spend day and night fishing on the beach but the presence of the sticks are posing danger to lives since they work on the beach barefoot.

Besides monsoon fishing activity, people also come for evening walk as well as children play on the beach but fear of injury due to presence of bamboo sticks.

 Villagers informed that this issued had been raised in a gram sabha but the authorities failed to take action on the same informed D’mello
