mapusa: Mopa Airport work has finally resumed but that too at a snail’s pace with the company attributing it the restrictions due to lockdown on account of the COVID-19.

Further, for the safety of the staff, a doctor has been appointed at the site and the temperature of every worker/ staff is checked with a thermal gun before they enter the site.

A company spokesperson added, “In spite of the various challenges GGIAL has completed approximately 15% of the work. There are 700 workers at the site however due to the current restrictions because of COVID 19 lockdown resulting in adverse impact on supply of material, equipment’s, machinery etc only limited work can be executed at the site. The work force available at the site is adequate to execute the ongoing work. However due to strict adherence to the various precautionary guidelines (social distancing etc.) issued by the health authorities the turnaround time has been affected”.

Official further informed that they have prepared a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), which is being implemented in line with latest MHA, State and Centre’s orders/circulars and health advisories.

Responding to a query about the deadline being affected, officials said they are currently assessing the impact of COVID 19 pandemic on the construction plan and that it is too premature to comment about it at this stage.
