VASCO: Finally the work of installing a new air-conditioned chiller plant started at the Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, which had been closed for the last two years due to non-functioning of the centralised air-conditioner.
A bhoomi pujan programme was performed at the site project by Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar in the presence of Ravindra Bhavan chairman Jayant Jadhav and others on Tuesday.
Jadhav said that they had been trying for the last two years for the installation of a new AC plant since the auditorium had been shut and the people were deprived of tiatrs, dramas and other cultural and social programmes. The new plant has been tendered through the PWD by the Directorate of art and Culture, at an estimated cost of three crore.
According to Jadhav, the new AC plant is more efficient water cooled unlike the previous air cooled plant that was kept in the open and got corroded due to proximity to the sea. He hoped that the new plant will be installed before Diwali after which the main 700-seater auditorium will start functioning.
Vasco MLA Daji Salkar also said that finally the auditorium would open up after a gap of over two years. He said that despite the main auditorium being closed, Ravindra Bhavan organised several programmes in the mini hall and conference rooms.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar said that due to non-functioning of the AC plant, Ravindra Bhavan auditorium was closed down thereby prompting several artists to demand the installation of a new AC plant.
