Work on cross drain begins on war footing at Opa-Khandepar junction

Digging of the National Highway without signboards had caused chaos and confusion to road users; nearby residents also feared flooding of their houses if work was not completed

PONDA: The work on the construction of a cross drain at Opa-Khandepar junction has begun on a war footing after O Heraldo in its May 16 edition highlighted the tremendous hardships which would be caused to commuters and pedestrians with the onset of monsoon after road was suddenly dug, last Tuesday evening.

The news report stressed the need for completing the work on a war footing, as Opa-Khandepar junction is the main junction. O Heraldo flagged the need for clearing the huge mud dump which was posing a risk to commuters. Further, the National Highway traffic passes through Opa junction as the new Khandepar approach road work is still progressing.

Following the digging of the road, to construct a cross drain and closure of the road, there was traffic chaos since there were no proper vehicle diversion boards. However now the boards have been installed but chaos and confusion still prevail due to unfinished works of NH.

Khandepar local Sandeep Parkar said the contractor has begun the cross drain work on a war footing. He welcomed the work which is being done at a fast pace. Traffic on the Belgavi-Ponda route passes through the Opa-Khandepar junction. He said some houses by the roadside were flooded during the last monsoon and so the cross drain work was required to be completed before the monsoon.
