Work on DefExpo pavilions continues as locals stage black band protest

MARGAO: For the second day running, the organisers of Defence Expo were seen carrying out the preparations of Defence Expo 2016 which is scheduled from March 28 to 31, 2016 at Betul.

MARGAO: For the second day running, the organisers of Defence Expo were seen carrying out the preparations of Defence Expo 2016 which is scheduled from March 28 to 31, 2016 at Betul. Heavy trucks and other machinery have reached the site and contractors have begun erecting hangers for stalls and pavilions for the DefExpo.
Some of the locals, who have been protesting, were seen on the site with black bands but the government brought in a large police force to allow the work to operate. Locals criticised the government for having failed to listen to their demands and vowed to continue their protests. However, no politician or political parties were seen at the site.
 Government officials present said they have received instructions that the event will be held come what may and they are to oversee that all works will be completed as per schedule.
Hundred odd trucks reached the site on Tuesday and workers were seen working day and night to hand over the venue to the organisers by March 25.
 Officials said there will be more than 880 stalls exhibiting various defence equipment. Except China and Pakistan all Asian countries and other big countries from across Europe will participate in this Expo. Israel will put up the biggest pavilion at this Expo with 30 companies from the country displaying their defence equipment in this Expo. Along with the contractor and organisers local administration and police department, Collector Sachin Shinde, SP Shekhar Prabhudesai, Cuncolim PI Gurudas Kadam are keeping a strict vigil on the every movement at the site.
