Work on new Khandepar bridge progresses at snail’s pace

PONDA: The connecting road of the new bridge at Khandepar is still moving at a snail’s pace despite many tragedies that have claimed lives. PWD engineers had assured to finish the work on war footing after a two-wheeler rider had died in a mishap in January.

The junction at Khandepar has become a death trap and locals are anxiously demanding the completion of the connecting road.

“The Khandepar junction has gained an infamous reputation for the past few years due to mishaps. Despite the completion of the bridge years ago, the connecting road is still incomplete. A two-wheeler rider lost his life due to confusion at night back in January and PWD engineers had assured to finish the work as soon as possible,” said a local.

“The work has resumed over the past few days which has led to congestion, especially during mornings and evenings. If the connecting road is completed then students who wait by the junction for buses will feel safer to an extent. Students wait for the buses in the afternoon in large numbers and even a minor mistake from a motorist could lead to a disaster,” a local resident, Vinod Bhanushali said.

Meanwhile, a goods carrying truck broke down on the main road on Sunday night and still haven’t been repaired yet. This truck is adding to the traffic congestion.
