vasco: The work on the parallel railway over bridge at Shantinagar-New Vaddem area has been delayed, according to Dabolim MLA and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho. He blamed the same on the objections raised by Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha and those people who have objected to the doubling of the railway track.
He was responding to the demand from commuters from Shantinagar and New Vaddem, who feel the existing over bridge is too narrow, because of which, they face a lot of inconvenience along with the pedestrians passing by.
Godinho added that this work was to be taken up along with SWR’s project of doubling the railway track, as per Union Minister Piyush Goyal instructions. He said the work would have been completed by now, in a veiled dig to the objections that have been raised, which he says has brought the project to a standstill.
He also recalled that in September 2019, during a quick visit to the New Vadem Shantinagar area, Goyal and government officials had inspected the site next to the existing narrow railway over bridge. Godinho explained that it during this inspection, that he had pointed out that the single railway over bridge is insufficient and thus a new parallel over bridge is required.
