PONDA: The work of dumping waste for land filling to construct approach road to the proposed four-lane bridge at Khandepar has restarted following the intervention of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
It may be recalled that residents of Khandepar on Sunday stopped trucks from unloading waste to fill the land. The waste was reportedly transported from PMC’s abandoned garbage site at Bond-Baag, Ponda.
Ward Panch Sandip Khandeparkar along with other panchas and resident objected to dumping of waste and demanded immediate removal of the waste.
However, following a meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Panch Khandeparkar changed his earlier stand. The meeting was attended by PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar and PWD officials.
“The PWD minister has assured that villagers will not face any problem due to the use of waste for land filling as it will be covered by a thick 1 metre layer of mud. The minister further said that provision will be made for rain water and trenches will be dug along the approach road,” informed Khandeparkar.
“I am satisfied with the minister’s assurance as earlier nothing was made clear to us,” informed Khandeparkar.
