Work to desilt Khandepar River basin commences

PONDA: The desilting work on Khandepar River basin near Khandepar Bridge has been commenced by the Water Resources Department, recently.

The locals said, “The river had flooded in the monsoon last year as debris and mud dumped into river during the construction of new bridge was lying in the river basin.

According to Sandeep Parkar, last year the Khandepar River witnessed major flooding due to which not only houses were flooded and collapsed but also the national highway at OPA junction was flooded due to which traffic was halted and commuters were stranded along the national highway at Khandepar.

He thanked Herald for highlighting the issue and stressing on the need to desilt the river basin to prevent flooding.

Sandeep said, “Not only river should be desilted at OPA Khandepar but the WRD should also desilt the up and down streams as the river is filled with silt and mud due to which flooding occurs every year.”
