Work to remove Sonsoddo waste begins on war-footing

MARGAO: In order to avoid more damage and mess at the Sonsoddo dump yard, the Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation (GSWMC) commenced the work pertaining to removing the waste from the old treatment plant, on Monday.

As informed by Agnelo Fernandes, chief officer, Margao Municipal Council, removal of the waste from the plant has begun on war-footing on Monday. 

“The GSWMC has taken up the responsibilities to remove the spilled waste inside the old treatment plant at Sonsoddo dump yard,” he said. 

The CO is very much hopeful that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who has been sworn-in on Monday, will give his approval in order to transport the 10 tonnes of waste generated in the jurisdiction of the civic body to the Saligao Waste Treatment Plant. 

“The meeting to discuss repairs of collapsed wall will be  probably held on Wednesday, wherein the council will decide upon the issue,” the Chief Officer said.
