MARGAO: Citizens were upset to find garbage and plastic waste alongside the Western Bypass between Benaulim and Navelim being burnt by labourers.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when citizens saw a lot of smoke alongside the bypass road and raised concerns that the fire could spread to the vegetation on the side of the bypass.
However, when the labourers were questioned, they stated that they were asked to burn the waste, including plastic, by their supervisor for the bypass related work.
The labourers further added that it is a common sight and lately a lot of garbage had been dumped by the road side and this was starting to give out a foul stench and also added that the amount of plastic was blocking them from doing their work.
They added that the idea was if the waste is removed and burnt, it will prevent others from dumping garbage again in that area.
Citizens then demanded that the authorities take action against persons who are dumping waste in the public.
