Working since 2001, CCP regularises 75 daily wage workers

PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP ) regularized services of 75 daily wage workers, who were employed with the corporation since 2001. These include 66 sweepers, eight supervisors and one driver.

The Mayor added that these 75 workers have been employed with the corporation for last 19 years on daily wages. He  added that henceforth, they won’t employ  daily wage workers, as per government directions.

Elaborating further, CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues warned of strict action including suspension, if the workers fail to adhere to duty hours. “There would be no compromise on duty hours. If anyone is found absent during duty hours, he or she would be marked as half day leave on 1st instance and then leave for 2nd. On the 3rd occasion, the worker will be placed under suspension,” he said.

Earlier, Labour Minister Jennifer Monserrate tweeted, “ Another accomplishment for the Department of Labour & Employment! I’m proud to announce that 58 personnel, comprising of sweepers, supervisors and a driver who were on daily wages are now permanent job holders after signing an MOU between the dept and CCP.”
