Panjim: In a shocking incident, maggots were found in mid-day meals supplied to some Government Primary Schools (GPS) in Savoi-Verem and Keri area of Ponda taluka. When questioned Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the government will take strict action against the self-help group who supplied meals to schools across Savoi Verem, Volvoi and Keri areas in Goa. Presently an inquiry has been initiated and strict action will be taken, he assured. He further said that such type of incidents keep happening but we need quality food.
Earlier on Tuesday, Worms were found in mid-day meals supplied to two government primary schools at Keri and Savoiverem in Ponda taluka during the inspection.
Three self-help groups (SHGs) are supplying food to these schools. The soya chunks in the pulao given to students were found to have worms. Students were immediately asked by the school authorities to refrain from consuming the pulao.
The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspectors along with the Ponda ADEI Amita Talaulikar visited these schools and collected samples of the mid-day meals for investigations.
The team also inspected the kitchens of the self-help groups at Mangeshi and is learnt to have asked for a report from the SHG members.
