PONDA: Following allegations by locals of encroachment in the Daag-Ponda nullah which falls within the municipal jurisdiction as well as Kavlem Panchayat, the Water Resource Department (WRD) officials inspected the site and issued show cause notices to parties involved in construction of retaining wall on both sides of the nullah.
The alleged violators have however rejected the claims of the WRD and locals, stating that they have not done any encroachment and their construction is within the limit of their property. Following this, the WRD decided to conduct joint inspection with Land Survey Department officials and local bodies.
Last week, the locals had alleged the original nullah width was 6.5 metres and it is clearly visible that the retaining wall and pillar of shed had been encroached into nullah thus reducing its size to four metres.
