WRD Min inspects Fatorda fields affected by flow of water

Minister of Water Resources Department (WRD) Subhash Shirodkar also spoke about the recent development works at the dams across the State.

MARGAO: Minister of Water Resources Department (WRD) Subhash Shirodkar interacted with farmers of Fatorda as he assessed the condition of ponds, their adjoining fields and the flow of water in that area.

The Minister had come to Fatorda on Tuesday following the assurance he had made in the Assembly.

While Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and the local farmers explained to Shirodkar the problems the farmers face, Sardesai also called for steps to be taken for the beautification of the pond.

Shirodkar gave an assurance that he would look into the issues faced by the farmers. 

When he asked the farmers about the source of water and about the sluice gates, he was informed that the water comes from Nuvem and the sluice gates are managed there. Concerns were also raised about how the fields are affected by the ongoing sewerage works but the farmers were informed that such works should be completed soon.

The minister said, “It is important that the age-old bundhs are repaired and preserved given the vital function they have provided to agriculture in the State all these years.” 

He added that the State government will be desilting a total of 40 lakes across the State and for this, the Central government has provided funds. He added that by putting up a retaining wall and beautification works can be included in that project.

Shirodkar also spoke about the recent development works at the dams across the State.
