WRD minister plans to desilt five prominent lakes

Says amphibious machines will be deployed to clear the water bodies; These machines will work in any season

MAPUSA: WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar plans to desilt, beautify five prominent lakes in Goa including Saipem, Batim, Carambolim and two more. 

Shirodkar inspected Mapusa River in presence of Mapusa MLA Joshua D’ Souza.

Shirodkar said, “Between June 1 and June 10, the whole of Mapusa River will be cleared from water hyacinth up to Moira Bridge. The Mapusa River has witnessed growth of water weeds. Amphibious machine will be deployed to clear the river which works in any season.”

“I am planning to take five prominent lakes such as Carambolim, Saipem, Batim and two more, which will be desilted and beautified. So water wells will be constructed where community farming is done,” said the minister.

D’ Souza said, “Desilting of river will be completed before the monsoon. These particular amphibious machines will remove the weeds from their roots. After the water hyacinth is removed and the blockages are cleared, the Mapusa River will be able to breathe again.”

Mapusa MLA said that by first week of June, the Mapusa river bridge at Tarir will be inaugurated. “This will connect Mapusa with surrounding villages. It will bring big relief to people of Mapusa as well as visitors from surrounding villages,” said the MLA.
