MARGAO: Following the joint inspection with various authorities, the locals of Benaulim and Seraulim ,who gathered in large numbers at Tolleabandh on Wednesday evening, felt a sense of déjà vu, when the WRD said they will recommend to the government that the Western Bypass passing through Benaulim should be built on stilts in view of the flood-like situation during the monsoon.
The locals recalled that WRD had made this same recommendation last year in July too during a spell of heavy rains.
The only difference was that unlike last July, when WRD officials were asked by the locals and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, to confirm what their recommendations would be to the government, in front of the media persons. The same question was asked to the PWD engineers and the Salcete Deputy Collector.
The WRD, PWD and Deputy Collector stated that based on what they have seen at the site, given that the water catchments areas were filled to the brim that it was high tide and more rain was expected, the Western Bypass should be built on stilts.
