Writer, ex-Dy Speaker Vishnu Wagh no more

PANJIM: Former Dy Speaker and eminent writer Vishnu Surya Wagh passed away in Cape Town, South Africa.
“Vishnu Surya Wagh, 53  passed away peacefully on February 8 in South Africa while he was on a tour to Cape Town and Johannesburg as per his wish and desire,” his wife Aruna said. His body is expected to arrive in Goa on Friday, she confirmed.
Wagh, was a poet, writer, dramatist, journalist, politician and management consultant. He later turned to politics and was elected MLA from St Andre constituency, on a BJP ticket.
Due to his fragile health, he had been on a break from his active career since 2016. A firebrand writer and activist, his book, Sudhir Sukta, was embroiled in controversy in 2017 for what many termed as offensive language and content.
In May 2016, Wagh suffered a massive heart attack, resulting in significant kidney damage. A few months later, in August 2016, he suffered another heart attack, while at a public function in Panjim. He then underwent angioplasty at Goa Medical College (GMC) and was later shifted to Mumbai for treatment.
Wagh returned to Goa in April 2017, when he was discharged.
