QUEPEM: The deliberations at the Xeldem Gram Sabha centred around the completion status of the Tilamol ground, compensation for farmers affected by stray cattle, allegations of negligence in addressing public issues, and more.
Among the issues raised, the compensation for farmers whose crops were damaged either due to rains or stray cattle overgrazing came into focus. Prashant G Dessai inquired about the delay in releasing compensation.
He stressed that not only should farmers from Govol be compensated but also those from the Xeldem area whose paddy fields have been damaged by stray cattle.
Sarpanch Gauri Gawas Desai said that while the compensation was initially slated for release on August 15, the compensation has not yet been received. She assured that the compensation would now be distributed on December 19.
The Sarpanch also spoke about the status of the Tilamol ground, stating that the work is projected to conclude in September or October. However, the contractor has not provided an exact timeline.
James Fernandes, a local resident, expressed his dissatisfaction with the sound system in the hall. He revealed that during a recent Village Development Committee meeting, he had suggested hiring a sound system on a trial basis, a proposition that had gained support from the Sarpanch and Secretary. However, the decision was later reversed by Pramod G Dessai, the Deputy Sarpanch.
Fernandes proposed the formation of a committee comprising farmers, with one representative from each of the Panchayat wards. This committee would provide inputs for the development of a new Agriculture Policy.
Shantanu G Dessai raised concerns about the appointment of a new LDC (Lower Division Clerk), opposing the selection of an individual from outside the Xeldem Panchayat area. He said that appointments should be confined to the Panchayat’s jurisdiction.
Advocate Prakash G. Dessai drew attention to a viral video circulating on social media, of a show-cause notice issued by the Sarpanch of VP Xeldem on the letterhead of VP Caurem.
Deputy Sarpanch Pramod Desai acknowledged the issue of illegal constructions within the panchayat area, particularly highlighted in wards 3 and 4 of Xeldem, and said that corrective measures would be taken against the culprits.
