Xeldem local held for murder bid on former teacher

MARGAO/Quepem: Quepem Police on Monday arrested 25-year-old Xeldem resident one Abhishek Hiremath for trying to kill his former teacher 62-year-old Laxmikant Shikerker from Assolda by pouring petrol and later trying to set him ablaze with a lighter.

Based on the complaint by Laxmikant, PI Deepak Pedneker  registered an offence against the accused under Sections 457,  380,  469  and 307 of the IPC .

Laxmikant in his complaint stated that on November 8, Abhishek effected entry into his house and stole cash amounting to Rs 6,990 from the purse of the complainant’s wife.

Laxmikant stated that the accused poured petrol on him while he was fast asleep and tried to set him on fire with a lighter. However, Laxmikant foiled Abhishek’s attempt as the latter was caught by the complainant.

Quepem Police team headed by PI Pedneker  rushed to the site and arrested the accused.

Police have seized the material used by the accused.

“Abhishek, who confessed to attacking Laxmikant, said when he was studying in Class X, he was beaten by Laxmikant, who was his teacher. Through this confession, it shows that it is a case of revenge against the teacher,” Quepem Police said. 

Abhishek was excellent in studies, said PI Deepak Pednekar.

The accused will be produced before the Quepem Court on November 9 for remand.
