QUEPEM: A no-confidence motion against Xeldem Sarpanch Dipti Naik was passed with 8-3 margin. The motion was moved by eight panchas, including the Deputy Sarpanch.
All 11 panch members were present for the meeting, which was held on Tuesday. Deputy sarpanch will overlook the affairs of the panchayat till a new sarpanch is elected.
Panchayat comes under jurisdiction of the Curchorem Constituency and is headed by Power Minister Nilesh Cabral. Eight panchas accused the sarpanch of not taking them into confidence while undertaking development works.
Sarpanch Dipti Naik however refuted the claim. “The motion moved against me makes no sense because during the meeting with BDO and observer, panchas were asked if I had done a single work without taking them into confidence, to which they had said no,” she said.
It can be recalled that locals from Nave Moddi had taken out a protest march a few days back against the panchayat, which had caused a split within the panch members. There are rumours that the sarpanch lost her post as she had sided with the locals on the issue of development. The post of sarpanch at this panchayat is reserved for women candidates.
