MAPUSA: After Canca farmers blamed the government for blocking their pathway, Shri Bodgeshwar Xetkari Sangh on Wednesday alleged that the government has acquired their land in name of road beautification.

The Sangh claimed that the beautification is taken up without consulting the farmers and without paying any compensation for the land. They also alleged that the work is started without following proper procedure.

“We condemn this act of injustice towards Mapsekars. The beautification work is being carried out by the GTDC without obtaining proper documentation and authorisation. We have submitted a memorandum to Dy Collector Bardez highlighting this issue,” said Sangh president Sanjay Barde.

“Fields have been acquired  without any prior notice and without obtaining NOC from the farmers, which is very unethical according to the Land Acquisition Act. The farmers have neither received any notifications from the Dy Collector’s office in this regard,” Barde said.

“The farmers won’t be able to enter their fields and carry out agriculture activities since the road work is going on in full swing. There is no way for the tractors to enter the fields and if any farmer questions the authorities they are threatened by the police”, Barde said.

“The requests of the farmers are being neglected. The High Court directed the Government to rehabilitate the temporary kiosks at the Verla Canca fields at the newly constructed Kadamba Bus Stand. The Deputy Collector Bardez should stop the ongoing work immediately,” the sangh demanded.
