Yasin Bhatkal, co-founder of the Indian Mujahideen

Goa residence: Anjuna
It was then the turn of Yasin Bhatkal who stayed without fear within one kilometer radius of Anjuna Police Station from November 2011 to February 2012.
This was definitely a disastrous intelligence lapse on the part of Goa Police.
During his stay in the State, Bhatkal had recruited many local youth from slums in his terror group until his arrest by National Investigation Agency on the Bihar-Nepal border.
In this case as well, the local landlord had not ensured the identity of the occupants comprising three members including the terrorist. The police ironically did not know about him despite the department’s repeated claims of carrying out regular beat patrolling across the State 24×7.
The red tiled roof house where Bhatkal lived; belongs to Dnyaneshwar Chari, who lives at Duler, Mapusa.
Chari had said he wanted to start a workshop but due to a major injury to his hand, he rented out the house for Rs 7,500 per month. The name plate on the house has the name of Shanu Chari.
Chari, who has come under the NIA scanner claims he had completed all the formalities before renting out the house but does not remember the name of the person who had signed on the ‘C’ form claiming it was “not Bhatkal.”
The NIA, which had escorted Bhatkal to Goa for investigation had seized a pressure cooker, bottles of acids which were left behind by them and one second hand Yamaha motorbike, from his Anjuna home.
