Year-long celebrations to mark Mahalaxmi temple bicentenary

PANJIM: In the build-up to the 200th anniversary of the Shree Mahalaxmi Saunstan, Panjim, next year, a series of activities, including religious and cultural, have been planned and are set to begin from Friday.

PANJIM: In the build-up to the 200th anniversary of the Shree Mahalaxmi Saunstan, Panjim, next year, a series of activities, including religious and cultural, have been planned  and are set to begin from Friday.
A statement issued by the Shree Mahalaxmi Saunstan states, “Shree Mahalaxmi Saunstan would be completing Dwishatabdi next year. To mark this auspicious and historic occasion of Shree Mahalaxmi Temple, a year-long ‘Shree Mahalaxmi Saunsthan Dwishatabdi Mahotsav 2017-18’ would commence on the vardhapan diwas, i.e, 30th June 2017.”
President of the Shree Mahalaxmi Saunsthan Committee, Yogish Dempo said, “Shree Mahalaxmi is the gram Daivat of Panjim and Taleigao. Next year, Shree Mahalaxmi Saunstahn would be completing 200 years and to commemorate this auspicious and historic occasion, various religious and cultural activities have been planned on Shukla Saptami of every month till next year. The culmination would be on the vardhapan divas next year.”
The temple which was established on July 10, 1818, is a landmark of Panjim and the most frequented temple in the area. Whilst Lord Shiva, Lord Ravalnath and Grampurush stand on the left of the main temple, Lord Hanuman idol is consecrated in an independent temple on the right hand side on a raised land. Recently an idol of Lord Ganesh was installed and consecrated with religious fervour.
