PONDA: The Film Makers organisation has demanded greater consistency in the Goa film festival to promote film culture in the State.
“I appeal to the government to conduct the Goa Film Festival every year or every alternate year, to encourage film producers, directors, artistes and actors and promote film culture in the State,” said Film Makers President Milind Madgut, while addressing a news conference at Ponda in the presence of Film Makers Vice President Mahadev Khanolkar.
Welcoming the scheme declared by ESG Vice Chairman Damu Naik to provide grants of Rs 50 lakh to film producers, the Film Makers Association has, however, demanded transparency in the scheme.
“In 2007, 21 movies were sanctioned finance but only six were completed, while in 2010, 23 movies were sanctioned finance but only five movies were completed. This shows the mismanagement of the scheme and public money should not be wasted,” said Madgut.
The film makers have also demanded that films should be marketed properly, as it would help the films to reach wider audiences.
Vice President Mahadev Khanolkar, who is also a film producer, hailed the decision of Damu Naik to organise Goa Film Festival shortly, after a gap of six years.
“The Goa Film Festival commenced in 1997. Later, it was organised in 2000, 2005 and now in 2014 after a gap of many years. This has caused great loss to Goan film culture and Goan artistes, producers and directors. The IFFI, which takes place every year, neither benefits nor encourages artistes in Goa,” said Khanolkar.
“Only the Goan Film Festival has the capacity to promote film culture in Goa and it should be conducted every year or alternate years to encourage Goan artistes,” he added.
