MARGAO: The condition of an Aquem road connecting the Curtorim Housing Board to major areas of Margao has gone from bad to worse. The road is waterlogged and has several potholes that threaten the lives of motorists.
More than 3,000 commuters travel through this road everyday, but it has remained one of the most ignored in Margao for years. The works for a water pipeline and a JICA sewage line are currently underway on the road.
Swapnil Gholba runs a shop beside the road, and the problems have now become routine for him. He said, “I travel on this road everyday and the result of which were not seen immediately. I spent more than Rs 30,000 to repair my vehicle. Even the two-wheelers are giving away. This road needs immediate repairs.”
PWD sources stated that the road wouldn’t be tarred until December as the works of the water department and JICA had to be completed first. The potholes have been filled with mud three times in the last two weeks, only to be washed away in rainwater, taking it back to square one.
