MARGAO: Over 24,000 job aspirants in South Goa were left in disappointment as the District Administration postponed the written test/skill test for 147 posts at the South Goa District Collectorate.
The announcement comes after a long wait of four years for the recruitment process to commence. The reason given by the administration for the postponement is the model code of conduct being in force for the general elections to the Ponda and Sankhalim Municipal Councils.
The written tests for the posts of LDC, stenographer, and talathis, which were supposed to be held on April 23 and April 30 respectively, have been cancelled, and new dates will be communicated separately. The skill test for Junior Stenographers will be held on April 28 and 29 at the Government Polytechnic College, Mayem, Bicholim.
In February 2019, over 24,000 job aspirants had applied for the 147 posts, with more than 5,000 applying for the nine posts of Talathi, and over 4,500 for the 15 posts of Junior Stenographer. Despite the long wait, the recruitment process has been postponed yet again.
The South Goa Comunidades Forum (SGCF) has also raised objections to the recruitment of new employees, as the surplus and illegally appointed employees of the office of Administrator of Comunidades South Zone were not accommodated. In a memorandum to the District Collector, the SGCF demanded that the ongoing recruitment process be halted until the issue is addressed. However, the District Collector is yet to take a call on this matter. Even as the State government has repeatedly promised to boost employment opportunities for local youth, thousands of job aspirants have been left disheartened due to the postponement of the recruitment process.
