PANJIM: Collem Police has cracked yet another burglary case, after Prakash Patil, the prime accused in four recent burglaries, reportedly confessed to having broken into another house in Curchorem.
Collem PI Jivba Dalvi has now written to managers of all banks in the State to furnish details of bank accounts in the name of the accused and to freeze all bank accounts operated by him.
It may be recalled that goods worth Rs 1.26 lakh were stolen from a house at Bimbal-Collem on April 28.
During investigations, Collem Police was informed that some locals had seen the two accused on a black-coloured motorcycle. Based on their description, a sketch of one of the accused was prepared by an artist Sanjay Harmalkar of Mapusa.
Acting on further clues, Dalvi narrowed down on a habitual offender, Prakash Patil of Zariwada in Padoshe-Sanqelim.
Similar burglaries were also committed on the same day at Sanguem and Curchorem.
Following the arrest of Patil, Collem police learnt that Patil was involved in three burglaries at Collem, Sanguem and Curchorem, involving the theft of gold items valued at Rs 9.09 lakh in total. Patil also confessed to having broken into a house at Mollem, but said he did not find any gold or cash there.
During further interrogation on Saturday, Patil admitted to the Collem police that he had also broken into a house at Carmanem-Curchorem and had stolen gold and cash.
Dalvi has requested his counterpart at the Curchorem police station to act in the matter.
Incidentally, the complainants in the three burglaries, one each at Collem, Curchorem and Sanguem, have identified their respective gold ornaments. Police has claimed to have recovered all the stolen gold items stolen in the three burglaries.
Efforts are also being made to nab the associate of Patil, who is also involved in burglaries in Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
