PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) on Friday said that on one side the BJP government is appealing to people to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, and on the other side has started saffronisation of the Goa Police Department by displaying BJP banners inside the Anjuna Police Station.
GPYC President Varad Mardolkar said that it is shocking to see Anjuna BJP Mahila Morcha President Pooja Chodankar, Zilla Panchayat members Niharika Mandrekar and Sanisha Toraskar along with others putting up the BJP banner in the Anjuna Police Station and the office of Electricity Department during ‘Raksha Bandhan’ celebrations.
Mardolkar said that the government machinery cannot be used to take political mileage. The culture of the BJP is of high-handedness and muscle power.
“Police officials should know that their duty is to protect entire citizens of the State and not BJP parivar,” he said.
Mardolkar demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who holds the Home portfolio must explain this high-handedness of the BJP functionaries and apologise to the people of Goa for misusing the government machinery for taking political mileage.
The GPYC president also urged the Director General of Police (DGP) to take serious cognisance of the gross violation of norms by the Anjuna PI and suspend him immediately for his direct involvement in doing propaganda for the BJP.
He also appealed to Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar to act against all those responsible to allow the BJP banner to be displayed inside the Electricity Department office at Anjuna.
