Youth held for assaulting woman

Valpoi police on Monday arrested a 25-year-old youth from Thane-Pali on charges of assaulting and attempt to murder a 22-year-old woman from Thane.
According to Valpoi Police, Sanjay Gaonker has been remanded to five days police custody.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday evening, Valpoi police had registered a complaint against Sanjay Gaonker on charges of pelting stones on Shakuntala Ainker and seriously injuring her head. She was admitted to GMC Hospital in Bambolim.
Shakuntala’s father, Ganesh, later filed police complaint stating that Sanjay had assaulted Shakuntala while she was returning from her field on Wednesday evening. Police was on the lookout for accused.
According to police, the accused had fled from the scene and was staying in Belgaum for few days. However, after Valpoi police got the clue that the accused had returned to his house in Sattari, Valpoi police team led by PI Shivram Vaigankar arrested him.
