VASCO: Vasco police have arrested one Saroj Rohan (18), resident of New Vaddem for helping two accused persons to flee.
The accused and 18 others were involved in the assault case reported outside the Vasco police station on Wednesday evening in which three persons were injured, including one seriously.
According to the police, Saroj Rohan allegedly helped his two friends Mehboob Shaikh and Sudhir Kerkar (accused in the assault case) to flee by dropping them at Margao railway station.
Thus, when he returned home at New Vaddem, his neighbours questioned him about the assault case and about the absconded accused persons involved in the crime.
When he refused to reveal any details about the accused persons, the locals who were already upset with the gang wars taking place in their area, later thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Vasco police later arrested him under several sections of IPC.
Meanwhile, the Vasco police have booked a case against 20 persons including six known and 14 unknown persons for forming an unlawful assembly and causing injuries to Santana Correia (38) resident of New Vaddem outside the Vasco police station on Wednesday evening.
All the accused persons namely Govinda Venkatesh, Ghochis (full name not known), Sudhir, Santosh, Mehboob Shaikh, Basu and 14 others have been booked under several sections of IPC, for first forming unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons like hockey sticks, dandas, baseball bat, metal punch and knife and assaulting the complainant outside Vasco police station.
