PONDA: Ponda Police on Wednesday arrested Navin Naik (24), a resident of Warkhande, Ponda with 600 grams of ganja worth Rs 2.25 lakh in a raid conducted at football ground.
The accused has been arrested under Section 20 (b) (ii) (A) of NDPS Act.
Since January this year, this is the fifteenth case registered by Ponda police in connection with seizure of ganja worth more than Rs 17 lakh.
Most of the arrested are migrant labourers in whose States ganja is easily available. However, some locals have also been arrested for possession ganja.
Police sources said that since past many years, they used to arrest only few persons with ganja. However, this year, the ganja cases have shot up four fold.
