Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said Youth from Goa are
taken to other countries in the name of jobs but are actually taken for the
purpose of human trafficking.
He claimed that people have approached him and
stated that they have paid lakhs of rupees to agents, to secure jobs in other
countries but are then ill-treated and some even get arrested. “The police
should be proactive in such cases and shouldn’t wait to take action until
someone files a complaint,” Sawant said while speaking during the State Level Conference on Human Trafficking.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that a group of boys had approached him a week back, with the complaint that an agent had taken Rs 2.5 lakh each from them with the assurance of offering jobs abroad.
“The agent had also taken a couple of boys abroad. When this group contacted those boys, they informed that they are in trouble and one of them is also arrested by local police,” said CM Sawant. He went on to state that the police had later arrested the agent who was made to repay the amount taken from the boys.
