PANJIM: A youth’s left wrist was chopped off with a sword near the Ribandar ferry wharf late Sunday night in a gang war. The fight, which began in Taleigao, ended with the gruesome incident in Ribandar.
Eight accused in the two crime scenes are absconding and two of the four victims are undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim. The hand has been re-attached to the arm, and the victim is undergoing treatment.
According to the Panjim police, at around 9.30 pm a group of eight persons attacked Eknath Gauns and Yuvnath Kuttikar, both residents of Nagali in Taleigao. The incident occurred in Nagali in which the accused attacked the two youth with swords and iron rods and attempted to kill them.
Sources said that Eknath and Yuvnath, alongwith another friend, were inspecting a vehicle which had come for repairs at Yuvnath’s garage close to his house. The third person escaped unhurt as he was inside the vehicle and the duo ran for their life when the accused attacked them. While Eknath was attacked with rods, Yuvnath received grievous injuries due to the sword attack. All eight then fled from the scene.
Out of the eight accused, four were masked and hence their identity is not yet known, whereas the other four have been identified as Jack, Gaurish, Kamlesh, all residents of Nagali in Taleigao and Manish a resident of Chorao in Tiswadi.
Subsequent to the attack, Yuvnath’s brother, Krishna Kuttikar and his friend Dilip Kankonkar proceeded to chase down the attackers. After the chase, the two encountered the gang of four near the Ribandar ferry wharf. The two rival sides got into a fight and physical assault.
The four accused overpowered Krishna and Dilip and attacked them with iron rods and swords. In one of the attacks of the sword, Krishna raised his left hand in an attempt to defend himself from the attack in which his left hand was chopped off at the wrist and fell to the ground. Dilip also received grievous injuries to his body from the iron rods and sword.
Witnesses said that the two victims were left in a pool of blood at distance of less than 100 metres from each other. Krishna’s chopped off wrist lay on the road until police and medical help arrived at the scene.
Out of the four victims, Yuvnath and Krishna continue to receive treatment at GMC, while Eknath and Dilip were discharged on Monday afternoon from the hospital. All the accused, including the four unknown masked persons, are absconding and the police are investigating the two incidents.
